State Duma approves a bill on the operator of ERA-GLONASS system

On July 3, 2015, the State Duma of Russian Federation approved a bill "On making changes to the Federal Law "On State Automated Information System ERA-GLONASS (on the operator of ERA-GLONASS system)" in the III reading.

The bill was prepared by the deputies of three Duma parties led by the Head of State Duma Transport Committee, Yevgeny Moskvichev. The non-profit partnership GLONASS and its members were actively involved in working on the document.

The bill stipulates the establishment of a Joint-Stock Company GLONASS as an operator of State Automated Information System ERA-GLONASS. The JSC GLONASS, with 100% of its shares belonging to the Russian Federation, will be affiliated to the Ministry of Transportation of Russia. The asset complex of the State Automated Information System ERA-GLONASS will be transferred to the authorized capital of JSC GLONASS.

The opportunities of using the infrastructure of GLONASS state emergency response system for accidents are increasing. Apart from receiving, processing, storage and transmitting the information about traffic accidents and other accidents on the motorways of Russian Federation, it will be possible to use the system to create other state information systems, as well as to provide compensatory services.
