PHILIPPINES ARE INTERESTED IN GLONASS

Moscow and Manila discussed the possibility of using the Russian GLONASS navigation system in the Philippines. This was reported by the press secretary of the Minister of Transport of the Philippines Lea Kyambao.

The statement was made following a meeting between Transport Minister of the Philippines Arthur Tugade and Russian Transport Minister Maxim Sokolov. The Russian delegation, led by Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, visited Manila during the 31st ASEAN summit.

During the meeting between the head of the Russian Ministry of Transport Maxim Sokolov and his Philippine counterpart, the possibility of using the Russian navigation satellite system GLONASS was discussed. The Philippine side considered the proposals prepared by the experts of GLONASS UNION.

"In the field of air traffic management, the Russian side suggested that the Philippine colleagues consider the possibility of installing the GBAS-A-200 (Local Control-Correcting Station A-2000) in the stationary version at the Manila airport to ensure positioning and accurate approach of aircraft landing, as well as in three airports in the Philippines, a similar system in small-size execution,"- said in the message of the Ministry of Transport.

The introduction of this system will improve the efficiency of aircraft maintenance, reduce the operating costs of the airport and air transport company, optimize the use of transport and special equipment on the apron, and will contribute to improving the security of the services provided by the airport as a whole.

Experts of GLONASS UNION also note a favorable basis and wide prospects for cooperation in the field of navigation technologies based on GLONASS in the transport sector. "We would like to note that the successful experience in implementing large-scale projects in the field of satellite navigation developed by the Federal Network Operator in the navigation field of GLONASS NP can be used in the Republic of the Philippines," said Roman Malkin, representative of GLONASS UNION.
