Beeline Business and NPP “ITELMA” can supply all major Russian automakers with ERA-GLONASS units

OJSC VimpelCom (t/a Beeline Business) jointly with NPP "ITELMA" – a scientific industrial holding, integrating a number of automotive component producers, conducted trials of ERA-GLONASS telematics units.

NPP "ITELMA" products are supplied to leading Russian vehicle assembly plants: AvtoVAZ, GAZ, and others. The ERA-GLONASS System for transmitting alerts to emergency services switchboard can be supplemented with monitoring solutions for provision of additional services.

In this project, special Beeline Business SIM cards, installed in the telematics units, were successfully switched from an operator network profile to the ERA-GLONASS profile.

In the future, broad opportunities for using commercial services in addition to the mandated ERA-GLONASS profile can greatly accelerate the process of forming a common national transport infrastructure. Potential market penetration can add up to hundreds of thousands multi-profile telematics units.

Starting in 2015, all vehicle models, undergoing certification procedure for the first time, must be equipped with such devices, and starting in 2017 – all new vehicles.

Presently, domestic vehicle brands account for 26.1% share of production; 116,900 vehicles were produced in Russia in the first quarter of 2014. According to the Automobile Manufacturers Committee of the Association of European Businesses (AEB), 602,500 new passenger cars and light commercial vehicles were sold in Russia in Q1 2014.  

Use of commercial services and the capabilities for alerting the emergency services in event of an accident can bring both automakers and vehicle drivers extensive additional navigation, management, and control capabilities for vehicle fleets of any size anywhere in Russia.
