Russia and India have agreed to cooperate in the field of GLONASS technologies

October 28th in Delhi was a meeting of the Russian-Indian working group on trade-economic and investment cooperation. Representatives of the Ministry of Economy, the Ministry of Finance, the Ministry of Housing, the Central Bank of Russia and the Indian ministers discussed promising areas of cooperation between the two countries. The meeting was attended by GLONASS Union Head of International Projects Alexander Bondarenko.

Discussing the issues of cooperation in the field of navigation technologies based on the GLONASS the parties confirmed that the successful experience in implementing large-scale projects in the field of satellite navigation accumulated by GLONASS Union can be used in the Republic of India.

In the near future the Indian side will identify the partner of GLONASS Union for implementations of projects of navigation technology in the country. As part of the strategic program "Make in India" which was recently announced by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi the parties are considering deployment in India of a production of navigation devices with GLONASS support.

For the implementation of navigation technologies based on the GLONASS in India were selected following priority areas:

· Command and control of the police and Special Forces;

· Creation of a national system of emergency response to accidents;

· Creation of monitoring systems and effective management of municipal transportation, and safety of passengers;

· Creation of control systems of commercial vehicles;

· Integration of navigation technologies in the activities of insurance companies;

· Monitoring of the stationary and natural objects;

· Construction of toll roads systems.

Issues of cooperation between Russia and India, including in the field of satellite navigation technology, will be considered on November 5th  in the course of the regular meeting of Russian-Indian Intergovernmental Commission on Trade, Economic, Scientific, Technological and Cultural Cooperation, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Rogozin and the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of India Sushma Swaraj.
