Interfaces between ERA-GLONASS and 1-1-2 systems accepted into service in the Republic of Tatarstan and Kursk and Kaluga regions

GLONASS Union successfully conducted stand-alone testing of the interfaces between the ERA-GLONASS National Accident Emergency Response System and the systems for emergency services dispatch using the common 1-1-2 emergency number in the Republic of Tatarstan and Kursk and Kaluga regions. These are the first regions where ERA-GLONASS and 1-1-2 systems will become integrated in January 2015.

ERA-GLONASS National Accident Emergency Response System was designed to promptly communicate accident location and time to the emergency services, saving lives and mitigating injuries of road traffic accident victims or casualties in other emergencies on Russian roads. According to expert estimates, ERA-GLONASS will help save up to 4,000 additional lives every year by reducing the emergency services time-to-arrival at the scene by up to 30%.

The ERA-GLONASS System will commence full operation starting January 2015. In event of a traffic accident, the in-vehicle terminal will transmit accident data to the ERA-GLONASS System, which will then be passed on to the 1-1-2 System for coordinating the response by emergency services. In these Russian regions, where the 1-1-2 System is not placed into service by the end of 2014, alerts from the ERA-GLONASS System will be forwarded to the regional law enforcement PSAPs.

Starting 1 January 2015, Customs Union Technical Regulations "On the safety of wheeled transportation vehicles" will require all new vehicles, undergoing for the first time the Type Approval procedure for conformance with the Regulations requirements, to be equipped with ERA-GLONASS terminals. From 1 January 2016, this requirement will be extended to vehicles, entering service in Customs Union member states and used for commercial transport of passengers, hazardous cargo, and solid household waste and refuse. And from 1 January 2017, all new vehicles entering service in Customs Union member states will be equipped with the terminals.
