Integration of ERA-GLONASS and Gonets will be completed in 2015

The integration of ERA-GLONASS Accident Emergency Response System and Russian satellite communications system Gonets will be completed in the end of 2015. This information was reported to the Prime Minister of the Russian Federation Dmitry Medvedev during his official visit of the exhibition "Transport of Russia" on December 5th 2014.

At the moment the LEO-satellite system Gonets covers the whole globe with satellite communication services, and the terminal of ERA-GLONASS system can transmit an alert about road accident via this satellite system if the mobile network is unavailable.

«Integrated ERA-GLONASS/Gonets terminals is planned to use in vehicles which are operating mainly in areas without covering of mobile networks, for example, in underpopulated and far regions, - says GLONASS Union Chief Analyst Andrew Ionin. - This also includes all transport involved in lumbering and in oil or gas fields development. Also it would be necessary in special cases with highest requirements to reliability of delivering an emergency call, for example, for vehicles carrying dangerous goods. Fishermen and tourists would also like to use such integrated ERA-GLONASS/Gonets devices. Preliminary works on the hardware integration have already been completed, and in the next year we plan start a full-scale integration and the creation of the subscriber's equipment».

The CEO of Gonets Satellite Company Dmitrii Bakanov said «at the moment the data transmitting protocols of both systems are under integration to allow control centers to work with unified software and technical base». Also one of the Russian companies have already begun to develop an ERA-GLONASS terminal that supports satellite system Gonets.

State ERA-GLONASS Accident Emergency Response System is being created to save lives and mitigate injuries of road traffic accident victims or casualties in other emergencies on Russian roads. This is attained by reducing the emergency services' (Police, EMERCOM Rescue, EMS) time-to-arrival at the scene by 30% on average through utilizing modern navigation, telecommunication, and information technologies. The ERA-GLONASS System will be put into operation since the beginning of 2015.

Satellite communication system Gonets is designed for the global exchange of different kinds of information with space vessels as well as for the establishing of radio channels for different purposes. On Q4 2014 the system consists of 10 satellites. At the beginning of 2015 is scheduled to launch three more satellites «Gonets-M».
