The ERA-GLONASS terminal has passed crash tests for an overturn

The vehicle equipped with a GLONASS terminal has successfully passed crash tests for an overturn in the test site of Central Scientific Research Automobile and Automotive Engine Institute ("NAMI"). It was a final test in a precertification cycle of testing ERA-GLONASS terminals as a part of vehicles.

The ERA-GLONASS terminal developed by Russian company Fort Telecom was installed in Chery Bonus and configured to trigger on the fact of an overturn based at the built-in accelerometer and gyroscope. Speeded up to 40 km/h the car has ran over a special ramp and overturned. At the moment of the accident the terminal correctly identified the location, severity and impact force, the type of accident (overturn), transmitted this data to the ERA-GLONASS trial subsystem and established the communication channel with a dispatcher.

"Road accidents with overturn rates third by occurrence frequency and number of victims after frontal and side collisions," - said GLONASS Union Deputy Head of ERA-GLONASS Project Development Eugene Meilikhov. – "The detection of overturn by ERA-GLONASS terminals allows sending an emergency call automatically right after the accident and thereby saves human lives and health of drivers and passengers. This crash test has finished the cycle of developing of certification methods and confirmed the readiness of "NAMI" to certify vehicles equipped with emergency service calling devices."

"During the test we evaluated the risk of possible injury to the driver and passengers of the vehicle for this kind of accident, and the ability of automatically detection of overturn and making an emergency call of ERA-GLONASS terminals produced by domestic companies." - said NAMI Deputy Head of the Car Safety Department Alexey Laguzin.

"The testing of ERA-GLONASS equipment together with NAMI already has become a common practice for Fort Telecom," - says Fort Telecom CBDO Vladimir Makarenko. - But the crash test that simulates an overturn was held for the first time. The ERA-GLONASS terminal has automatically determined the overturn. Representatives of the Chinese brand Chery made sure in high quality of Fort Telecom equipment, and specialists from NAMI and Fort Telecom have acquired the real data characterizing the behavior of cars in this type of accident.
