ERA-GLONASS was demonstrated in Egypt
December 16th 2014 was held a working visit to Egypt of the Russian delegation headed by Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich. The GLONASS Union President Alexander Gurko took part in an official meeting with Prime Minister of Egypt Ibrahim Mahlab and in negotiations with industry ministers.
During the meeting there was a demonstration of the ERA-GLONASS Accident Emergency Response System which will be put in the permanent operation in Russia next year. Each vehicle which for the first time undergoes conformity assessment in the form of type approval will required to be equipped with the ERA-GLONASS terminal. According to experts, ERA-GLONASS will save up to 4 thousand lives each year. Similar systems will be deployed in Belarus and Kazakhstan, and the interest in the Russian experience was showed by partners from China and India.
From Egyptian side in the meeting were attended the Egyptian Prime Minister Ibrahim Mahlab, the Minister of Investment Ashraf Salman, the Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mohamed Shaker El-Markabi, the Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Adel El Beltagy, the Minister of Industry, Trade and Small Industries Mounir Fakhry Abdel Nour, the Minister of Tourism Hisham Zazou and the Minister of Petroleum Sherif Ismail. They appreciated the opportunities and potential of the ERA-GLONASS system and its high implications for the transport security. Representatives of the Ministry of Investment of Egypt expressed the greatest interest in the ERA-GLONASS project, so there was reached a preliminary agreement on a demonstration of this system in Cairo in early 2015.
The GLONASS Union is actively expanding of the international cooperation in use of GLONASS satellite navigation technologies. There are already signed documents on the establishment of joint ventures in China and India, there are plans to develop cooperation with other countries including Egypt. Due to the fact that the Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah Al-Sisi pays great attention to the safety of residents of the country, the ERA-GLONASS project adapted to the local requirements can form the basis of the national Accident Emergency Response System.
