GLONASS Union as an International UN Seminar participant

The International United Nations Seminar on "Application of Global Navigation Satellite Systems / GLONASS" was held in Krasnoyarsk, Russia on May 18-22, 2015. GLONASS Union vice-president of strategic development Yevgeny Belyanko participated in the seminar with a report "ERA-GLONASS: current status and project development plans".

Russian system ERA-GLONASS is the world's first state urgent response system in an emergency on motor ways put in operation. Experts estimate that the system will allow to save lives of about 4 thousand people annually. The estimated economic effect of putting the system into operation equals 8 billion rubles per year through the reduction of road mortality.

The ERA-GLONASS system is in keeping with a similar system eCall, which is created in the European Union, thereby the integrated security space is being formed in Russia and in Europe.

In the course of the ERA-GLONASS system creation GLONASS Union developed a large volume of standards and regulations. Today Russian specialists are the motive power of the uniform UN rules creation, and the AECS working group, which is engaged in uniform rules creation draws primarily on the experience, accumulated in Russia.

The International UN Seminar is dedicated to usage of global navigational satellite systems for sustainable social and economic development of countries, primarily developing ones. The seminar was organized by the UN Office for Outer Space Affairs together with the Russian Federal Space Agency. The host party was ISS-Reshetnev Company.

About 150 foreign and Russian delegates from more than 20 countries of Europe, Commonwealth of Independent States, Pacific Region, Latin America and Africa were present on the Seminar on "Application of Global Navigation Satellite Systems / GLONASS". Among the seminar participants there were the representatives of national space agencies and departments, professors, academicians and university research officers, the area of responsibility and academic interests of whom encompass the navigational and geodesic infrastructure development.
