GLONASS UNION PLANS TO CREATE A NEW SERVICE FOR DRIVERS BASED ON THE PLATFORM "AUTODATA"

GLONASS UNION reported to “Izvestia” that in Russia, in 2022, it is planned to introduce real-time services for drivers that warn beforehand about ice on a particular street. The pilot project is planned in Moscow. Two options are considered: developing a new application from scratch or develop add on into existing programs — i.e. “Yandex.Navigator" or 2GIS application. The service is designed to warn the driver before entering the hazard part of the road advising to reduce the speed. This service will be helpful both for beginners and experienced drivers. But it is too expensive to develop it from scratch.

"Russian drivers will be able to get a forecast about the appearance of ice on specific streets. The information will be sent to a special application on a smartphone or directly to the car", stated to “Izvestia” Evgeny Belyanko, Vice-President of GLONASS UNION, and adviser to the National Technology Initiative (NTI) “AutoNet”. Later, he said, V2X technology will be used for data exchange between the car and road infrastructure. The new system is being developed by GLONASS UNION.

"We expect such a service to be developed approximately in 2022 after implementation of the "Autodata" platform. Moscow is the most suitable city for testing it." said Evgeny Belyanko. He noted that today drivers are warned about ice in the city as a whole. A more accurate forecast will only be possible if a large amount of data is processed.

The representative of NTI "AutoNet" Yaroslav Fedoseev said that the platform "Autodata" will process the information, analyze it and predicts ice based on numerous sensors, capturing real-time road surface temperature, humidity, etc. The system will receive data from road weather stations — there are several dozen such points in Moscow. From his words, the equipment is currently being tested in Samara and Volgograd, and it is planned to do so in Moscow later.

— “The key difference between the system and the built-in ESC/ESP in most modern cars is that the driver will know in advance which streets on his route will have ice. Built-in systems warn by turning on the corresponding indicator on the panel when the car has already "skidded",” - he said.

Evgeny Belyanko did not mention the cost of creation the service, and the NTI "AutoNet" also does not disclose this information.

The development of the technology will cost eight to ten million rubles, excluding the cost of road infrastructure equipment, a source close to the development of the project told “Izvestia”. He added that the service will use the computing resources of the "Autodata" digital platform, which is roughly cost of 1.3 billion rubles.

Dmitry Klevtsov, Deputy head of the Federation of car owners of Russia (FAR), believes that the best solution would be to integrate the service into one of the popular navigators.
