ERA-GLONASS System is demonstrated at Open Innovations Forum

At the Open Innovations Forum in Moscow, deployed ERA-GLONASS System and its integration with the «1-1-2» System and the European eCall System were demonstrated to the Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, French Prime Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault, and Finnish Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen.

During the demonstration, held as part of the Open Innovations Forum and Exhibition, an interoperability test of the road accident emergency response systems – Russian ERA-GLONASS and European eCall (to be fully functional in 2015) – was carried out in real time: a test alert from a vehicle with an eCall terminal  was successfully transmitted to the ERA-GLONASS System. The System received the alert and generated an incident record.

According to the President of the GLONASS Union, the sole general contractor for the ERA-GLONASS System, comprehensive pre-commissioning trials are presently underway throughout the country. In October, GLONASS Union jointly with Rostelecom completed the integration of the ERA-GLONASS and the «1-1-2» systems in five Russian regions – Krasnodar, Novosibirsk, Ufa, Rostov-on-Don, and Kostroma. Commissioning of the ERA-GLONASS System will take place at the end of 2013.

The Contracting Authority for the System is the Ministry of Transport of the Russian Federation.

Majority of GLONASS Union members are involved in building the ERA-GLONASS System:

- Rostelecom and MegaFon provided the sites for deploying system infrastructure, as well as own communication channels

- VimpelCom and MTS provided the ERA-GLONASS backup communication channels

- Cesar Satellite Group developed and is testing terminal prototypes
