Moscow infrastructure is ready for experiment with self-driving cars

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev earlier signed a decree on an experiment of using self-driving cars on public motorways

The technical infrastructure of Moscow has been sufficiently prepared for the experiment of using self-driving cars on public motorways to start from December 1 of this year, official spokesman of the Autonet National Technology Initiative told TASS on Tuesday.

"Current technical infrastructure [in the Russian capital] is quite enough to begin the experiment as early as in December of this year. However, infrastructure will require improvement later on," he said.

Specific time for appearance of self-driving cars on motorways will depend on results of the experiment, Avtonet said.

Russian Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev earlier signed a decree on an experiment of using self-driving cars on public motorways. The experiment will start from December 1, 2018 on the territory of certain areas in Moscow and Tatarstan. The decision to hold an experiment on public motorways is needed to finalize changes in traffic regulations for such motor vehicles, Medvedev said earlier.
